Milton's Council on Aging board will vote Monday, Sept. 14, on two bylaw amendments: adding a formal mission statement and updating the agency's official office address to 10 Walnut Street.

The COA's bylaws currently have no written mission statement.

The proposed language, posted in a public notice on miltonma.gov on Monday, Aug. 17, would be added to Article II of the COA bylaws. According to the notice, the mission statement would read: "The mission of the Council on Aging is to support and advocate for residents over the age of 60 and their families in our community by providing programs, services, and resources that promote independent living and enrich their lives."

The notice describes adding a mission statement as "a custom that has become standard for American institutions of this nature."

The second amendment would update Article III to formally list 10 Walnut Street, Milton, MA 02186, as the COA's principal office. The senior center already operates at that address. The notice calls the change "self-evident, needing no explanation," though it does not specify what address the bylaws previously listed.

The nine-member board, appointed by the Select Board, has served Milton residents 60 and older since 1980. Director Christine Stanton oversees the center, which is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Loraine E. Sumner chaired the board as of November 2025, according to the COA's newsletter.
