Milton residents can now weigh in on what they want in the district's next superintendent through a new online survey.
Milton Public Schools posted the survey on its website Wednesday, Oct. 7, asking community members to share the qualities, experience and priorities they value most in a new leader. Responses are due by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. The survey includes a drop-down menu for respondents who prefer to answer in a language other than English.
The survey follows three community forums the district held as part of the superintendent search process. The sessions were open to all Milton residents and school community members.
The first forum took place at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 in the Milton High School auditorium. A virtual session ran at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1 over Zoom. The third met at 9 a.m. Oct. 2 at the Katherine Haynes Dunphy Conference Room, 515 Canton Ave., the former fire station building behind Town Hall.
The online survey extends that opportunity to residents who could not attend any of the three sessions.
John Phelan has been serving as interim superintendent. The district has not announced a search firm, a search committee or a timeline for naming finalists.
In the district's last permanent superintendent search, the Milton School Committee voted unanimously in January 2021 to appoint James F. Jette after surveying parents, guardians and staff and hosting listening sessions, according to the Milton Times.
Residents can access the survey through the MPS website. It is available in multiple languages.
