The Milton Animal League is throwing a Halloween costume party for pets and their people on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Milton Animal Shelter, 100 Access Road.

Cats and small animals take the spotlight first at 11 a.m. The dog costume parade follows at 11:45 a.m. Admission is a $10 donation at the door.

Prizes will go to the best-dressed pets, and a raffle will round out the morning. The event also includes treats for pets and kids, according to the league's website. Proceeds benefit shelter animals awaiting adoption.

Milton Animal League President Kimberley Reynolds is organizing the event with a committee of shelter volunteers. Reynolds wrote in her Oct. 12 Second Chance Tails column in the Milton Times that "a small but determined events committee, made up entirely of shelter volunteers and yours truly, have been busy plotting something rather more festive."

Reynolds invited local businesses to sponsor the event, donate items or simply connect with the league. Interested businesses can reach the organization through its website at miltonanimalleague.org.

The Howl-O-Ween fundraiser is one piece of a busy fall for the shelter. Reynolds also announced in her Oct. 8 Second Chance Tails column that the league's 2027 shelter calendar is available to order. The calendar features twelve animals who came through the shelter's doors.

Nancy Bersani, the shelter's former animal control officer, remains a fixture at the Access Road facility. Reynolds described Bersani in her column as the heart of the operation, noting that watching her work with a nervous dog is a lesson in patience and steadiness.

The league's next fundraiser after Howl-O-Ween is a Christmas fair on Sunday, Dec. 13, at Cunningham Park in Milton, featuring pet photos with Santa, raffles and gifts from local vendors.
