A fundraiser honoring a Milton man who spent more than 30 years supporting families of children with cancer returns to Topgolf in Canton on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The Douglas Rodman Memorial Topgolf Event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets cost $100 per person and include three hours of play, food and nonalcoholic drinks. Proceeds go to The Boston House, a Brookline nonprofit that provides free housing to families whose children are receiving cancer treatment.

Who was Douglas Rodman?

Douglas S. Rodman of Milton died unexpectedly on Dec. 21, 2021, at age 70 from heart complications, according to his obituary in the Boston Globe.

Rodman joined The Boston House's board in 1989, when the organization was still known as the Ronald McDonald House. He served for more than three decades. In 1992, he partnered with The Boston Harley Owners to launch an annual fundraising motorcycle run that raised $285,000 over 11 years. He also donated auction items, connected the nonprofit with Brookline businesses and volunteered at the house itself.

"Anyone who knew Doug was touched by his kindness, compassion, humor and love of life," his family wrote in his December 2021 obituary.

Rodman is survived by his wife, Theresa Rodman of Milton, daughter Gabrielle of New York and son Aidan.

What The Boston House does

Operating since 1979, The Boston House houses up to 22 families at a time at no cost while their children receive treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital. The Brookline facility serves children with cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders.

The memorial Topgolf event also ran in October 2025, according to a prior year's registration page.
