Canton's field hockey team lost 3-2 to Foxboro on Monday, Sept. 28, the Bulldogs' second straight defeat after opening the season with six consecutive wins.
The Hockomock League home game was tight throughout. Canton trailed 2-1 at halftime, according to the Canton Athletic Department on X, and could not complete the comeback in the second half.
The loss drops head coach Chrissy O'Connor's squad to 6-2 overall and third in the Hockomock League standings, according to MaxPreps. Canton has scored 41 goals and allowed just six through eight games.
The two-game skid started Sept. 24 when Franklin edged Canton 2-1 in a home loss for the Bulldogs. Senior captain Shannon Lane, the reigning Hockomock Davenport MVP and Providence College commit, scored Canton's only goal in that game. The Canton Athletic Department praised goalie Sophia Carlton's performance in the defeat.
Just 10 days earlier, the picture looked different. Canton had outscored its first six opponents 38-1, including a 10-0 rout of Stoughton, a 9-0 win over Taunton and a 7-1 victory at Mansfield. The lone goal allowed came against Mansfield on Sept. 16.
"We've had a strong start, but I think we need to be tested a little … We certainly have the skill level to compete against the top teams; it's just a question of whether we can put it all together," O'Connor told the Canton Citizen on Sept. 18, when the team was 3-0.
No individual goal scorers for the Foxboro game were available as of Monday night.

Canton's boys soccer team also fell on Sept. 28, losing 2-1 to North Attleboro in Hockomock League play, according to the Boston Herald. Volleyball was the bright spot. The Bulldogs swept Foxboro 3-0 behind Solely Rodriguez Martinez's seven digs and eight aces and Brooke Connor's nine kills and eight aces.
In Bay State Conference action, Milton's field hockey team improved to 6-0 with a 3-1 win over Wellesley. Ali Drane, Addy Phaneuf and Lizzie Ahearn each scored for the Wildcats.
Canton field hockey travels to Sharon on Thursday, Oct. 1.
