About 350 captains from all 12 Hockomock League schools gathered at Mass Premier Courts on Tuesday, Sept. 15, for the Fall Captains Conference. Nine members of the league's Leadership Executive Ambassador Program (LEAP) planned and ran the entire event.
Canton High, one of the 12 participating schools, has three LEAP members: John Flood, Prakrit Iyer and Fiona Trendell. Their specific roles at the Sept. 15 conference were not detailed in available accounts.
The nine LEAP members who designed the day were Lindsey Mitchell of Stoughton, Zach Lapointe of North Attleboro, Dharma Trivedi of Sharon, Cam Murk of King Philip, Kyla Nashawaty of Milford, Serena Akinboboye of North Attleboro, Logan McAndrew and Justin Hrenko of Oliver Ames, and Grace Sigman of Mansfield.
Mitchell and Lapointe, writing together for HockomockSports.com, said planning began in early spring. The group broke from previous years by replacing speakers with interactive exercises focused on teamwork and communication.
Scheduling proved tricky. The planners did not know how long each activity would take.
"One of the most difficult parts of planning was configuring a schedule without knowing exactly how long each piece of the conference would take," Mitchell and Lapointe wrote.
At a final meeting in August, the nine simulated every activity so each member knew their role and the timeline was set. On Sept. 15, each LEAP member took a court and led exercises, adjusting on the fly as groups rotated through.
Ryan Gordy posted on X on Sept. 15 that stewardship was the conference's driving theme.
Several planners carry standout athletic credentials. Nashawaty, a three-sport varsity athlete at Milford, earned the Hockomock League Underclassmen of the Year award after her sophomore season. McAndrew, a three-sport athlete at Oliver Ames, is a Division 2 state champion in soccer. Trivedi's relay team at Sharon placed second at both the Hockomock League Championships and the MIAA Division 2 State Championships in spring track and field.
LEAP launched in November 2025 with 35 members selected through a nomination and interview process across the league's 12 schools. The Fall Captains Conference was the program's first major public project.
The day ended with all 12 schools back in the gym for a competitive tug-of-war.
