Canton High's golf team hit the links Thursday, Aug. 27, for preseason work, beginning its defense of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Division 2 state championship the Bulldogs won in October 2025.
The Canton Athletic Department posted on X that the reigning champions were back practicing ahead of the 2026 fall season. The Bulldogs captured the Division 2 state title on Oct. 28, 2025, winning by three strokes and capping a season that also included a sectional championship.
Joey Ryan, then a senior, led the Bulldogs' 2025 season, breaking the program record for lowest scoring average and finishing fifth individually at the Division 2 North Sectional, according to the Patriot Ledger's All-Scholastic selections. Chase Thomas, then a freshman, posted a 36.5 scoring average that broke the program's freshman record — the second-best season average by any Canton golfer in program history, the Patriot Ledger reported.
The golf title was one of three MIAA state championships Canton High won during the 2025-26 school year. The Bulldogs also claimed the Division 2 boys ice hockey crown and the Division 3 girls track and field title, according to the CHS Athletics blog.
Canton Athletic Director Danny Erickson wrote on the CHS Athletics blog in October 2025 that the state championship capped a season of remarkably low scores and a sectional title as well.
Thomas, now a sophomore, is among the returning players from the championship squad. Ryan graduated after leading the team through its historic 2025 title run. The program's 2026 fall schedule, including its first match date and league opponents, has not yet been publicly released.
