Milton resident Lisa Martin will donate all of her author profits from a new cancer lifestyle guide to research when the book releases Sept. 15.

"Our Healing Home: 360 Changes We Made When Cancer Arrived At Our Doorstep" grew out of the Martin family's response to husband Kevin's prostate cancer diagnosis, according to the Milton Times. His cancer worsened in 2024, and the family began reading medical papers and researching what they could change at home. Three months in, Lisa Martin sat down to list every switch they had made.

She ended up with 360.

"I easily came up with 360 and I said, 'this is quite amazing. I think this could help other people' because it kind of helps you feel like you have a little bit of empowerment," Martin told the Milton Times.

The self-published book spans 22 sections covering exercise, food, gardening, finances and other lifestyle adjustments. One example: the Martins swapped black plastic and Teflon kitchen utensils for glass or ceramic alternatives over concerns about chemicals leaching into food.

Kevin Martin described his diagnosis as Stage IV prostate cancer in a July 28 LinkedIn post. He wrote that the book grew from the family's response into "a book filled with practical ideas, personal stories, and guided journaling prompts." All of Lisa Martin's author profits from the first edition will go to cancer research, he said, though the specific recipient organization has not been named publicly.

"I am so incredibly proud of her…but, more importantly, grateful for her. She's keeping me moving!" Kevin Martin wrote.

The book hit No. 1 in Amazon's New Releases for Cancer category within about an hour of its pre-order listing going live, Kevin Martin said. He added that selling roughly 7,000 copies by the release date, including pre-orders, could put the book on the New York Times best seller list.

Pre-orders are available through Amazon.
