Canton's boys and girls soccer teams each fell to Franklin by identical 4-1 scores on Wednesday, Sept. 30, extending a rough stretch against the Panthers across multiple Hockomock League sports.

The boys lost on the road in a 6 p.m. league game at Franklin, according to MaxPreps. The girls dropped their home matchup at 6:30 p.m., according to the Boston Herald.

No individual scorers were reported.

The twin losses capped a week Canton would rather forget against Franklin. On Friday, Sept. 25, the Panthers' football team blanked the Bulldogs 28-0 in a Hockomock League game. Franklin quarterback Ethan Edmunds threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns in that win, the Boston Herald reported. Across football and both soccer games, Franklin outscored Canton 36-2 in the span of five days.

The boys soccer defeat leaves Canton at 3-7-1 overall and 2-5 in the Hockomock League, eighth in the standings. The Bulldogs have now lost two straight after a brief bright spot on Thursday, Sept. 24, when longtime coach Danny Erickson earned his 300th career victory with a 2-1 win over Attleboro.

Erickson, in his 34th year leading the program, owns a career record of 300-216-119. The Canton High graduate (class of 1989) has guided the Bulldogs to six Hockomock League titles and the program's only state championship game appearance, in 2021.

He was inducted into the Massachusetts Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014, as the Boston Globe noted in a Sept. 27 profile of the milestone.

The girls entered the Franklin game coming off a 2-0 win over Attleboro on Friday, Sept. 25. Before that, they fell to Oliver Ames 2-1 on Sept. 14.

Canton's boys return to action Saturday, Oct. 3, hosting Duxbury at 6 p.m. The schedule continues with a trip to Foxborough on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 5:30 p.m. and a home game against Sharon on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
