Volunteers picked up trash and cleared debris along the Neponset River at Canton's Paul Revere Heritage Site on Saturday, Sept. 19. The cleanup was part of the Neponset River Watershed Association's (NepRWA) 2026 fall cleanup, which ran from 9 a.m. to noon.

Canton Community TV posted on X that it was on site documenting the work. The station said it planned to air interviews with volunteers on its local channel.

NepRWA organized the cleanup across four sites, according to the group's Instagram page, seeking volunteers of all ages to help clean and restore parks and waterways along the Neponset. The Paul Revere Heritage Site was one of those four locations.

The nine-acre park sits on the east branch of the Neponset River in the heart of Canton. Paul Revere established the Revere Copper Company on the site in 1801 after winning a U.S. naval contract to roll copper sheets for warships, according to historical records of the site.

His company rolled copper for the hull of the USS Constitution, the dome of the Massachusetts State House and the boilers of Robert Fulton's steamships. The parkland opened in 2020, and renovation of the brick Copper Rolling Mill building was completed in 2021.

NepRWA's 2024 fall cleanup drew more than 250 volunteers across its sites, according to the organization's recap. A volunteer count for Saturday's event has not been released.

Massachusetts' fiscal year 2027 state budget includes at least $50,000 directed to the Paul Revere Heritage Site, according to budget documents. Canton Community TV said its interviews with Saturday's volunteers would air soon, though no broadcast date has been announced.
