The process for awarding one of Canton Public Schools' longest-running student funds may soon become much easier to understand.
The School Committee's Budget & Finance Sub-Committee meets Wednesday, July 15, to develop formal guidelines for the Cabot Fund, a historic trust that helps pay for outdoor learning opportunities for Canton students.
The meeting begins at noon in Room 19 of the Canton Public Schools Administration Building, 960 Washington St., and is open to the public.
The discussion follows questions raised during the School Committee's May meeting, when members reviewed grant applications and agreed the fund would benefit from a more consistent, transparent process.
The committee directed the finance subcommittee to create a standard scoring rubric and clearer criteria for deciding which requests receive funding.
Assistant Superintendent Lynch told the committee the Cabot Fund was established by the Cabot family, with investment earnings used to support outdoor educational programs for Canton students.
The district has not publicly disclosed how much money is available through the fund each year.
Any recommendations approved by the subcommittee will go back to the full School Committee for review and a final vote.
Wednesday's agenda also includes approval of the subcommittee's June 2 meeting minutes.
Canton Public Schools serves more than 3,200 students across six schools, making the Cabot Fund one of several resources that help expand learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
