Canton residents who drive on Wentworth Road, Ridgehill Road, Tilden Road or Talbot Road could soon see 20 mph speed limits on those streets. The Select Board will hold two public hearings on the proposed Safety Zones when it meets Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Salah Meeting Room at Memorial Hall, 801 Washington St., according to the town's posted agenda.
The first hearing, at 7:15 p.m., covers the four-street package. A second hearing at 7:25 p.m. would designate Revolution Way as a separate 20 mph Safety Zone.
The five-member board, chaired by Susan M. Harrington, also faces a decision on 140 Washington St., a single-family home the town acquired through tax title. Members will vote on whether to keep or dispose of the property. Interim Town Administrator Jennifer N. Kemalian is listed on the agenda.
Committee restructuring
Under old business, the board will consider disbanding two groups — the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan Committee and the Sustainability Committee — and replacing them with a single Climate Action Plan Implementation Committee. The agenda does not detail the rationale for the consolidation.
Other action items
The 15-item new business slate includes:
- A letter of support for a Community Preservation Application for the Ponkapoag Pickleball Project, which would fund professional design services at 2438 Washington St.
- A $2,852 state grant from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation for the forest steward management plan portion of the Ward Well Master Plan.
- Approval of a block party on Blackman Road at Louise and Meetinghouse Road on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 3 to 9 p.m., with a rain date of Saturday, Sept. 26.
- A new Police Public Records Clerk job description and personnel actions for Lt. Michael Brady and Sgt. Michael McDonald.
- Declaring three aging DPW trucks surplus: two 1999 Sterling L8500s and a 2000 Sterling L8500.
- Accepting $200 in memorial donations for the Department of Elder and Human Services in memory of Judy Kincade, plus a $1,000 gift for physical fitness programming from Victor DelVecchio and Alicia R. Lopez.
The board will also ratify vendor warrants totaling $1,248,298.85 for the week of July 30 and $1,502,452.26 for the week of Aug. 6, along with two payroll warrants totaling roughly $2 million.
A library update is scheduled for 7:35 p.m., presented by A. Capone.

The meeting is open to the public. It opens with a 15-minute public comment period at 7 p.m., giving residents a chance to speak on topics not already on the agenda. Canton Community Television will record the session; residents can watch live on Comcast channel 22 or Verizon channel 42.
The board's next meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. in the same location.
