Milton High field hockey routed Braintree 8-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Brooks Field for the Wildcats' most lopsided win of the season.

The victory pushed Milton to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Bay State Conference's Herget Division, good for first place in the league standings, according to MaxPreps.

Braintree dropped to 2-3.

The seven-goal margin topped Milton's previous season best of three goals, set in both a 4-1 win over Newton North on Sept. 14 and a 5-2 comeback victory over Needham on Sept. 16. Through five games the Wildcats have outscored opponents 22-5, an average margin of better than three goals per contest.

The Milton HS Athletics account on X confirmed the final score Wednesday evening. Individual goal scorers were not available as of Sept. 24.

Milton opened the season with a 2-0 home win over Brookline on Sept. 9, then beat Notre Dame Academy 3-1 at home on Friday, Sept. 11. Road wins at Newton North and Needham followed before the Wildcats returned to Brooks Field to dismantle Braintree.

Against Needham, Elise Hinckle scored a hat trick as Milton erased a two-goal deficit, the Boston Herald reported. Hinckle is among a group of players the Milton Times identified in a preseason preview as central to the 2026 squad. Four-year starter Alexandra Drane, senior Piper Bergen and junior Sam Talbot anchor the roster alongside underclassmen Taylor Scully, Maeve Lovett and Molly Wall. The preview noted the program's postseason ambitions after last year's comeback win over Agawam.

Braintree had entered the game riding a two-game winning streak. The Wamps beat Norwell 6-3 on Monday, Sept. 21, and Dover-Sherborn 1-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 22, before traveling to Milton. Braintree coach CeCi Hodgkins told MassLive after the Norwell win that her team "worked together to create opportunities and finish on them." That momentum did not carry over against the Wildcats.

Milton returns to Brooks Field on Monday, Sept. 28, at 4:30 p.m. to host Wellesley in Bay State Conference play. The Wildcats then host Weymouth on Wednesday, Sept. 30, travel to Natick on Oct. 5 and host Walpole on Oct. 7.
