Eight Canton firefighters received their pins at a Select Board meeting Sept. 16, marking a series of promotions across the Canton Fire Department's leadership over the past two years.

Fire Chief Jamie Meier hosted the pinning ceremony, which honored two new deputy chiefs, three captains and three lieutenants, Patch reported. The officers were promoted at various points between May 2025 and July 2026.

"I could not do this job without them, and I'm grateful each of these officers has dedicated their careers to protecting life and property in the community of Canton," Meier said.

Deputy Chief Andy Morgan, a 33-year department veteran, was promoted May 18, 2025. He is the longest-serving officer among the group. Deputy Chief Frank Walsh, with 12 years of service, was promoted July 19, 2026.

Three firefighters earned the rank of captain. Anthony Flematti, who has 10 years of service, was promoted May 26, 2025. Sean Fallon, a 15-year veteran, was promoted May 11. Ryan Patrician, with 14 years on the job, was promoted July 19.

Three new lieutenants round out the group. Justin Tilley, with eight years of service, Daniel Pendergast, with seven years, and Michael Hache, with 13 years, were all promoted July 19.

The ceremony came during a period of transition for the department. Former Chief Wendell Robery retired in early April after 38 years of service, three of them as chief, according to Canton Firefighters IAFF Local 1580. The Select Board chose Meier as the next fire chief in May, and he was sworn in June 16, the union announced on X.

Meier praised the promoted officers for their dedication to the department and the community. Altogether, the eight officers bring a combined 112 years of service to their new leadership roles.
