Canton's School Committee Budget and Finance Sub-Committee meets Wednesday, Aug. 12, to review the district's FY27 operating budget and revisit grant criteria for the Arthur Tracy Cabot Fund, a trust that funds outdoor activities for Canton children.

The session begins at 1:30 p.m. at the CPS Administration Building, 960 Washington St., Room 19. No votes are scheduled. The sub-committee is a working group that sends recommendations to the full School Committee for action.

FY27 budget on the table

The district has published an FY27 Budget Book on its website, though the document's specific dollar totals could not be confirmed as of Aug. 12. Brian Lynch, assistant superintendent of finance and operations, and budget analyst Kelley Durgin manage the district's fiscal planning. Canton Public Schools serves roughly 1,400 students across six schools.

Any recommendations from Wednesday's discussion would go to the full School Committee at a future meeting; no next full-committee date appeared on the posted agenda.

Cabot Fund: outdoor grants up to $2,500

The Arthur Tracy Cabot Fund, established under the will of Dr. Arthur Tracy Cabot, awards grants of $500 to $2,500 to promote "healthy out-of-door life among the children of said Town," according to a district letter outlining the program. The average award is $1,500.

The sub-committee discussed Cabot Fund award criteria at its Aug. 5 meeting, and the full School Committee voted on Cabot Fund awards at its Aug. 6 session. Wednesday's agenda suggests the panel is refining guidelines for future grant cycles rather than approving individual awards.

The fund is administered through the district's Business and Finance office, and the FY26 application was still listed as active on the Canton Public Schools website as of Aug. 12.
