The Canton School Committee begins the 2026-27 school year with votes on student discipline policies, federal grant funding and the district's fiscal outlook when it meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in Canton High School's Distance Learning Lab, 900 Washington St.
The session is the first open meeting since Aug. 20, when the committee's meeting included an executive session on collective bargaining strategy with the Canton Educators Association, along with scheduled votes on class-size language and non-aligned pay rates.
Four policies up for first read
Four district policies are listed for a first read and possible vote, according to the meeting agenda:
- Student Discipline (JIC)
- Promotion and Retention of Students (IKE)
- Ages for School Enrollment and Attendance (JEB)
- Interacting with Law Enforcement Officers Engaged in Civil Law Enforcement, tied to the PROTECT Act (ACL)
The agenda does not specify what changes are proposed to each policy.
Budget and finances
Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Brian Lynch is scheduled to present five items Thursday. He will outline the FY28 budget timeline, deliver the Q4 financial report for a committee vote and bring federal title grants and IDEA applications for approval.
Lynch and members of the Budget and Finance Subcommittee will also present recommended Cabot Fund awards for a vote. The fund supports outdoor youth activities in Canton. It is listed as unfinished business on its second read.
Three accounts-payable warrants totaling about $808,500 are on the consent agenda.
Curriculum and construction
Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Deborah Rooney will share summer curriculum and professional development updates. Superintendent Folan is scheduled to deliver a district highlights report and a GMS building project update.
Lynch will also present proposed changes to the district's building rental rules and regulations for a first read.
