Canton's Master Plan Implementation Committee will elect a new chair and vice chair Monday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. via Zoom, kicking off what the posted agenda frames as an organizational reset for the nine-member panel.

The committee, which coordinates implementation of Canton's Master Plan across land use and development policy, met in November, February and March but did not post agendas to the town's public Agenda Center for any of those sessions. The Aug. 17 agenda, posted Monday, Aug. 10, is the first to appear online in 2026.

Three sets of unapproved minutes from Nov. 20, 2025, Feb. 5, 2026, and March 19, 2026, are slated for approval.

Leadership and membership

Chair Emilio Mauro, who represents the Finance Committee, and Vice Chair Peg Mead will preside over a reorganization vote. The agenda does not indicate whether either incumbent plans to step down or whether the election is a routine annual formality.

The MPIC draws one representative from each of nine town boards and commissions:

  • Emilio Mauro (Chair) — Finance Committee
  • Peg Mead (Vice Chair) — Citizen-at-Large
  • Julie Beckham — Select Board
  • Gopal Chopra — Economic Development Committee
  • Sonja Grauds — School Committee
  • Bob MacDonald — Conservation Commission
  • Janice McCarthy — Playground and Recreation Commission
  • Mike Nourse — Historical Commission
  • Jim Quigley — Planning Board

Town Planner Connor Murphy, who serves as staff support, is scheduled to deliver an update at 8 p.m.

What's on the agenda

No specific development projects or Route 138 corridor items appear on the Aug. 17 agenda. The session focuses on goal-setting, a Town Meeting and Heritage Festival update, and setting the committee's future meeting schedule. A separate Route 138 Corridor Study Working Group handles that corridor's planning work independently.

The committee has historically tracked zoning and redevelopment proposals tied to the Master Plan, including the Canton Junction Overlay District and the 1860 Washington St. Redevelopment Stabilization Account.

The meeting will be recorded. Residents can join via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81611659118 (Meeting ID: 816 1165 9118) or by phone at +1-646-931-3860 using the same meeting ID.
