The Canton Fire Department will host a public remembrance ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, marking 25 years since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the fire department's station at 99 Revere Street. It is free and open to the public, according to the Town of Canton's event calendar.

The program includes a moment of silence, an invocation, a lowering and raising of the U.S. flag, a reading of the Firefighter's Prayer and remarks from speakers. The town has not announced who will speak.

The Blue Hill Masonic Lodge, a Canton-area fraternal organization chartered in 1863, will provide breakfast refreshments.

The department held a ceremony at the same station on Sept. 11, 2023. Canton Fire posted on X that day, thanking attendees. Members of the department's union, IAFF Local 1580, replaced flags at the gravesites of retired firefighters in June ahead of Firefighter Memorial Sunday, according to the union's post on X.
