A pregnant woman was rescued from an SUV after allegedly being held at gunpoint during a chaotic chase on Interstate 93 in Milton on Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to Massachusetts State Police. The pursuit shut down the highway during morning rush hour and ended with the suspect crashing into eight vehicles.

Dominic Hampton-Boyd, 31, of Roxbury was arrested near Exit 11 after fleeing on foot and now faces 11 charges including kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon involving a pregnant victim, and firearm violations, according to Boston 25 News.

State Police troopers identified Hampton-Boyd's vehicle near Exit 9 on I-93 northbound around 7:20 a.m. after receiving a call about a suspected hostage-by-firearm situation, CBS Boston reported. The pursuit began in Quincy and moved northbound toward Milton on the Southeast Expressway.

During the chase, Hampton-Boyd's SUV weaved through heavy rush-hour traffic at approximately 30 miles per hour, striking eight vehicles before coming to a stop near Exit 11. He tried to run. Troopers took him into custody on foot.

State Police spokesperson Sgt. Gregory Jones called Hampton-Boyd very dangerous in a statement issued Wednesday and said troopers recovered a firearm from the suspect vehicle.

The victim, who is the mother of Hampton-Boyd's children, received medical care at the scene and was taken to a hospital. No update on her condition had been released as of Thursday, Aug. 13.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kristen Eck, a 29-year veteran of traffic reporting, captured the chase on video from a camera attached to a drone in the HOV lane. "It was like something out of a James Bond movie," Eck told CBS Boston, adding that the driver was determined to escape even through a rush-hour traffic jam.

Traffic on I-93 was backed up for miles during the incident, with dozens of cars at a standstill as troopers worked to secure the scene.

Hampton-Boyd was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Thursday and held without bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim. His full charge list includes assault and battery on a family or household member, possession of a firearm during a felony, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a firearm without an FID card, firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and civil motor vehicle infractions.

A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21, in Quincy District Court. The Norfolk District Attorney's office is handling the investigation.
