Milton seniors and residents with disabilities now have access to Meals on Wheels, in-home care and other support services after Old Colony Elder Services (OCES) expanded into the community.
The Brockton-based nonprofit officially began serving Milton on July 1, bringing a range of programs designed to help older adults and people with disabilities remain safely in their homes. OCES has provided elder services in Plymouth County for more than 50 years but is serving Milton for the first time.
The rollout happened in two phases. Home care and protective services launched June 1, followed by Meals on Wheels, transportation assistance and other programs on July 1.
"We are pleased to welcome residents from the South Shore," OCES CEO Nicole Long said in a statement. "Many of the communities in our expanded service area border Plymouth County cities and towns where OCES has been providing services for more than 52 years."
The expanded services include:
- Meals on Wheels deliveries, including medically tailored and emergency meals
- Transportation assistance
- Homemaker and companion services
- Personal care, including help with bathing and dressing
- Medication management systems
- Emergency response systems
- Case management and care planning
Each resident receives an assessment to determine which services best fit their needs, with the goal of helping people stay independent and avoid unnecessary hospital or nursing home stays.
Milton is one of 11 communities added this summer, along with Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate and Weymouth. OCES now serves 34 communities across southeastern Massachusetts.
