Shannon Lane scored twice as Canton field hockey rallied to beat King Philip on Monday, Oct. 5, moving the Bulldogs into a first-place tie in the Hockomock League’s Davenport Division.
HockomockSports reported that Lane’s two-goal performance helped Canton overcome an early deficit against its division rival.
Lane, a senior captain and the reigning Davenport Division MVP, committed to Providence College during her junior season, according to a Canton Citizen preseason profile.
In that September profile, head coach Chrissy O’Connor said Canton had the talent to challenge the league’s strongest teams but needed to put the pieces together.
Monday’s comeback followed a pair of close September defeats. The Bulldogs lost 2-1 to Franklin on Sept. 24 and 3-2 to Foxborough on Sept. 28, according to Canton’s MaxPreps schedule. They subsequently beat Walpole 2-1 on Oct. 3 before facing King Philip.
Canton is scheduled to host Milford on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m., then travel to Norwood on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m.
