St. Agatha School in Milton expects approximately 430 students for the 2026-27 school year and its biggest middle school class in more than five years.

The Catholic school now has 81 middle schoolers, The Boston Pilot reported on Sept. 25. Overall enrollment grew 8 percent in one year and 18 percent since 2023, making St. Agatha one of the larger Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.

The school also added a new Early Childhood classroom this fall and has expanded classrooms in kindergarten and grade one in recent years. It was named the 2026 Best of the South Shore Award winner for Best Private Elementary School by South Shore Home, Life & Style magazine.

Innovation Lab takes shape

A new Innovation Lab is taking shape ahead of a Nov. 19 open house. The dedicated space will let students in kindergarten through grade eight work with 3D printing and other emerging technologies through hands-on projects in STEM, design and artificial intelligence, according to the school's website.

New furniture and equipment are expected to arrive in late October.

The school community raised $85,000 to build the lab, The Boston Pilot reported. Funding came from an anonymous leadership gift, family donations, a Catholic Schools Foundation Capital Improvement Block Grant, parent-contributed labor and professional expertise, and a gift from the Flatley Foundation to close the remaining gap.

Principal Gregg Chambers discussed the school's direction in a July article about his presentation at the G.R.A.C.E. International education conference. "I've always believed that leadership isn't just about what happens in your own school," Chambers said. "We all have something to learn from one another, and just as importantly, we have something to contribute."

The lab caps three consecutive years of community-funded projects. Families funded a new painted playspace in 2024 and a new gymnasium floor in 2025.

Fun Run chases $62,000 goal

Separately, the school's 8th Annual Boosterthon Fun Run is working toward a $62,000 fundraising goal. The school posted on Instagram on Sept. 30 that the drive had reached the halfway mark.

The effort matters. The Fun Run is the school's first major fundraiser of the year, bridging the gap between tuition revenue and the true cost of educating each child, according to the school's Fun Run page. Proceeds support academic programs, extracurricular activities and faith formation.

Fun Run event day is Tuesday, Oct. 6. Families are welcome to attend and cheer on students. If the school hits its goal, students will celebrate with a Popsicle Party with Principal Chambers and Bobby the Bear, the school mascot.
