Milton Public Schools posted a meeting agenda for a Superintendent Search Committee on July 27, the first visible step in the district's hunt for a permanent superintendent.
The School Committee voted in December 2025 to extend Interim Superintendent John Phelan's contract through the 2026-27 school year and begin a permanent search in fall 2026. The target start date for a new superintendent is July 1, 2027.
The posted agenda is a standard public meeting notice and does not list committee members, discussion items, or whether a search firm has been engaged. Milton has experienced significant superintendent turnover since James Jette's resignation in November 2022.
When Jette was hired in January 2021, the process included parent and staff surveys and public listening sessions. Whether the new search will follow a similar model has not been disclosed.
Residents can track search committee agendas at miltonma.gov. No future meeting date has been posted.
