Milton's field hockey team opened the Bay State Conference season with a 2-0 shutout of Brookline on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
The Wildcats blanked a Warriors squad that entered the year ranked one spot ahead of Milton in MassLive's preseason Bay State Conference poll. MassLive slotted Brookline at No. 4 and Milton at No. 5 in its rankings, published Sept. 8. Defending champion Walpole held the top spot.
The result is an early answer to questions about how head coach Lindsey Scully's group would replace graduated conference All-Star Lilly Babb and other key seniors. MassLive called the 2026 season a "tall task" for the Wildcats without them.
Milton went 10-6-1 last year and reached the MIAA Division 2 Round of 16 for the second time in three seasons. That postseason run set a high bar heading into this fall.
Brookline, coached by Emily Hunt, finished 2025 at 6-8-4. The Warriors were looking for a fresh start of their own but could not find the back of the cage against Milton's defense.
The Milton HS Athletics account confirmed the final score on X. The Boston Herald's statewide roundup also carried the result.
Sept. 9 was a busy day across Milton athletics. The Wildcats' golf team edged Needham 229-233, the swim and dive team topped Newton North 101-81, and the volleyball squad also faced Brookline, according to the Herald roundup and the school's athletics account. Three wins in three sports gave Milton a strong start to the fall conference slate.
