Blue Hill Country Club will host the Red Bandana Invitational on Monday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 22, bringing a Division I collegiate golf tournament to Canton for two days of competition on the historic par-72 Champion Course.

Boston College hosts the annual 54-hole event, which honors Welles Crowther, a BC lacrosse player (Class of 1999) who died saving as many as 18 people during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. Survivors identified him by the red bandana he wore over his face as he guided them to safety from the 78th-floor sky lobby of the South Tower.

Crowther grew up in Nyack, New York, and worked as an equities trader and volunteer firefighter. President Donald Trump announced May 22 that Crowther would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Judy Wein, a survivor Crowther rescued from the South Tower, has said he showed more compassion and wherewithal than most people manage in 100 years, according to the National September 11 Memorial.

Seattle University's women's golf team confirmed the Canton stop on its 2026-27 schedule, released Aug. 11. The Western Athletic Conference program lists the Red Bandana Invitational as its only Massachusetts appearance of the season. It's a rare East Coast stop for the Seattle-based program.

The tournament format calls for 36 holes on Day 1 in a shotgun start, followed by 18 holes on Day 2. Last year's edition drew 15 teams, including Boston University, Dartmouth, Columbia, Providence and Sacred Heart, according to Boston College Athletics. Boston College won the 2025 title with a team score of 883, its fourth consecutive championship.

The full 2026 field has not been announced.

Blue Hill Country Club, at 23 Pecunit St., has hosted professional tournaments including the 1956 PGA Championship and LPGA Tour events in the 1990s. The course was designed in 1925 by Eugene "Skip" Wogan and restored in 2003 by Ron Prichard.
