If you've hit a detour or lost water pressure lately, you're not imagining it. Canton has three major infrastructure projects running at once, meaning disrupted water service, traffic delays, and construction noise across town through the fall.

Contractor C. Naughton Corp. began replacing water mains on Sherman Street, Dewitt Avenue and Sanford Road on July 13. The town hasn't said publicly how long the work will take or when specific streets will lose service, so residents should keep an eye on the town's Public Works webpage for updates. The project overlaps with separate road improvements that began the week of July 6 — expect traffic delays and detours, though driveway access will stay open throughout.

Since early May, National Water Main Cleaning Co. has been rehabilitating Canton's sewer mainlines using Cured-in-Place Pipelining, a method that avoids full excavation. When crews reach a given block, homes and businesses there lose sewer service for roughly eight to 10 hours — the DPW is asking residents on affected blocks to hold off on washing machines and dishwashers during that window and to disconnect any sump pumps tied to the sewer system. A heads-up for drivers: cars parked in flagged no-parking zones during the work risk getting towed.

Coviello Electric began installing a fully actuated traffic signal at York Street and Randolph Street in June, complete with new mast arms, pedestrian signals, emergency vehicle preemption, and ADA-compliant curb ramps. The town expects heavy construction to wrap by fall.
