Canton firefighters knocked down a house fire at 48 Pecunit St. within minutes Tuesday, Sept. 8, with no injuries reported.

The Canton Fire Department responded to the home at about 11:37 a.m. after receiving a report of flames, according to Patch, which first reported the story. Fire Chief Jamie Meier said the shift commander spotted flames on the exterior of the house upon arrival. Crews extinguished the fire within several minutes.

The residents were not home at the time.

Canton Firefighters IAFF Local 1580 posted operational updates on X as units worked the scene, which the union described as a "Working House Fire." The union's account said Engine 3 stretched a hose line to attack the exterior fire while Ambulance 2 performed a primary search inside the house and Engine 6 established a water supply. The fire was dispatched as Box 9 in Canton's alarm system.

The union's initial post asked residents to avoid the area around Pecunit Street while crews operated.

The fire drew mutual aid from three neighboring departments. Stoughton and Milton sent engines directly to the scene to assist Canton crews. Sharon's fire department also responded. Milton and Norwood firefighters provided station coverage at Canton's firehouse so the town was not left unprotected during the incident.

Canton building and electrical inspectors responded to the scene to assess conditions. Eversource crews were called in to address downed wires next to the house, according to the union's update.

The Canton Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. No timeline for the investigation's conclusion has been announced. The extent of damage to the home and whether the residents have been displaced were not addressed in available reports.
