The team behind Steel & Rye has opened a new all-day market at 2 Eliot St. in Milton Village, filling a 1929 bank building with house-made food, local produce, specialty groceries, and a wine shop tucked inside the original vault.

Two Pence Market opened Tuesday, July 28, according to an announcement from the ownership team. The project is led by restaurateur Dan Kerrigan and co-owner and culinary director Brendan Joy, who have run Steel & Rye at 95 Eliot St. since 2012. Executive Chef Alison Hearn oversees the culinary program alongside Joy. Developer JD Wild of The ELEVATED Companies partnered on the building's transformation.

The menu spans morning to evening: coffee, freshly baked bagels, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, salads, seasonal bowls, prepared meals, and take-home selections. A walk-up window serves Toscanini's Ice Cream with rotating flavors, sorbets, and milkshakes.

Local farm partnerships anchor the produce program. Seasonal greens come from Allandale Farm; fruit arrives from Ward's Berry Farm.

"Milton has been home to Steel & Rye for close to fifteen years, and we wanted to create a place that feels connected to the community we've been so fortunate to be part of," Kerrigan said in a statement.

Kerrigan and Joy see the market as part of a broader push to bring locally owned businesses back to Milton Village's commercial core. It's their second storefront on the same street where Steel & Rye has operated for 14 years.

Inside, the restored building keeps its original furnishings and adds a fireplace and indoor seating. Two outdoor patios face the village, one shaded by a pergola. The vault door still swings open. But the room behind it holds wine bottles now, not safe-deposit boxes.

Two Pence Market is at 2 Eliot St., Milton Village. Hours of operation have not yet been publicly confirmed.
