Milton's annual Household Hazardous Waste collection, postponed after a September nor'easter, is rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5, at the DPW Yard, 629 Randolph Ave.
Drop-off runs from 9 a.m. to noon, weather permitting, the town confirmed on its website. The event is free.
Accepted items include cleaners, solvents, poisons and oil-based paints, as first reported by the Milton Scene. The town's DPW limits each household to 25 gallons. Proof of residency is required, and the collection is open to Milton residents only.
The original collection was set for Sept. 26. That weekend, a nor'easter brought 2 to 6 inches of rain to parts of Massachusetts, including Milton, and triggered flood warnings across much of the state, according to MassLive. Wind gusts reached 48 mph at Blue Hill in Milton. The town postponed the event with no makeup date at the time.
The Dec. 5 collection gives residents a chance to clear out materials that should not go in regular trash or recycling. Oil-based paints, stains, thinners and pesticides are among the items the DPW has listed as accepted in past announcements. A complete list of accepted materials is available on the town's hazardous waste page.
Residents who cannot wait until Dec. 5 have another option. Clean Harbors, at 1 Hills Ave. in Braintree, accepts household hazardous waste on the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon for $3 per pound, according to the town's website.
