Canton lost 35-14 at North Attleboro on Friday, Oct. 2, in the Bulldogs' Hockomock Davenport Division opener.
The Rocketeers controlled the game from the opening whistle. Canton trailed 7-0 after the first quarter and 20-7 at halftime, according to the Canton Athletic Department's game updates on X. North Attleboro's ground attack piled up more than 300 rushing yards, the Boston Globe reported.
Joseph Ruggiero led the way for the Rocketeers, ranked ninth in MIAA Division 3, with three rushing touchdowns and 120 yards on the ground. Nathaniel Robin added 102 rushing yards and a score. Nick O'Brien contributed 84 yards and a touchdown.
Canton's offense found life late in the second quarter when halfback Brody Baldiga punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 20-7. Teirnan's extra point was good, the athletic department posted during the game.
The Bulldogs got no closer. North Attleboro pulled away in the second half, building a 35-7 lead before Canton quarterback Dylan Lank hit Thomas Rose for a touchdown pass with four minutes remaining to set the final score.
The loss drops Canton to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Hockomock Davenport. The Bulldogs have now dropped three of their last four after opening the season with a 17-8 loss at Holliston on Sept. 10 and a 17-0 shutout win over Norwood on Sept. 18. A 28-0 home loss to Franklin on Sept. 25 preceded the North Attleboro defeat.
First-year head coach Jeff Eckler's squad has been outscored 80-39 through four games. Canton went 9-3 last season and reached the MIAA Division 4 semifinals as the No. 3 seed, according to the Globe's preseason preview.
North Attleboro improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Davenport with the win.
Canton returns home Friday, Oct. 9, to host Foxborough in a Hockomock Davenport matchup at 6 p.m. The remaining league schedule includes home games against King Philip Regional on Oct. 16 and Oliver Ames on Oct. 30, with a road trip to Mansfield on Oct. 23.
