The Milton Public Library is packing its August calendar with more than a dozen free programs, giving adults and families a reason to visit 476 Canton Ave. before summer winds down.
Funded by the Friends of the Milton Public Library, the lineup includes a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, virtual history talks and a screening of "Jurassic World Rebirth," according to the Milton Times. Most programs require registration at miltonlibrary.org/events/upcoming-events.
Musical and film historians Sam and Sandy Caponegro kick off the virtual series on Monday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. with "The Divas of Broadway," a clip-filled look at larger-than-life stage performers. Three days later, on Thursday, Aug. 20, a 2 p.m. Zoom session explores Revolutionary War painter John Trumbull and his iconic "Signing of the Declaration of Independence" as part of America 250 commemorative programming.
Author Suzanne Cope closes the month on Monday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. with "Women of War: Italian Assassins, Spies and Couriers Who Fought the Nazis," tracing the stories of four women in the Italian anti-fascist resistance during World War II.
On the big screen, MPL at the Movies shows "Jurassic World Rebirth" (PG-13), starring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. No registration needed.
The library's Adult D&D campaign meets Thursday, Aug. 13, and Tuesday, Aug. 25, both at 6 p.m. Yoga instructor Sheila Armstrong leads a gentle fluid yoga class on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. And on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., the library hosts Unplug and Unwind: Adult Coloring, with supplies provided.
A joint book club with Canton's Brookwood Community Farm, located at 11 Blue Hill River Rd. at the base of the Blue Hills, meets Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle."
Library director Will Adamczyk said in March that limited parking at the Canton Avenue building makes it harder to expand programming. The library has roughly 55 to 58 spaces, and a task force convened earlier this year to study options, according to the Milton Times.
