Drivers on Canton's Sherman Street should expect construction activity to continue through Thanksgiving as crews finish a water main replacement that spans roughly 10,000 feet.
The new main is installed. Two crews are handling service tie-ins and side-street connections along the corridor, according to a town construction update posted in July. That update said the project is expected to be substantially complete by Thanksgiving and noted that crews should not set up detours or road closures on the upper end of Sherman Street before 9 a.m.
Permanent trench patching on nearby streets begins Thursday, Nov. 5. The Canton Department of Public Works announced that C. Naughton Corp. will mill and pave trench areas on Fuller Street, Mountain Avenue, Sunnyside Avenue, Riverview Road and Hillside Street, where water work was completed over the summer. Motorists and residents should expect slight delays and detours on those streets.
The project covers Sherman Street and the Fuller Street neighborhood, according to a bid notice published in the Canton Citizen in November 2025. The scope includes new hydrants and service lines. The bid notice set a contractual substantial-completion deadline of Nov. 13, 2026. The town's July update listed Thanksgiving as the expected target.
The town asked drivers to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes while work continues on Sherman Street.
