A nine-piece New Orleans jazz band that has played every Red Sox home game at Fenway Park since 2000 is heading to Milton for a free Saturday afternoon show.

The Hot Tamale Brass Band performs at the Milton Public Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. The all-ages concert, sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library, will feature traditional New Orleans jazz, Dixieland, jazz funeral music and funky second line grooves, according to Milton Scene.

The Boston-area band was formed in 1992 after its leader, Mickey Bones, moved from New Orleans to Boston, according to Wikipedia. Bones built the group into a fixture of the local music scene, logging more than 800 performances at Fenway over the past two decades.

The band needs no amplification. That trait has let them perform in unusual spots, including while being propelled by scullers up the Charles River and on the back of a fire truck through downtown Boston.

Their résumé stretches well beyond ballparks. The Hot Tamale Brass Band has appeared at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Berklee Performance Center, First Night Boston, the Cambridge River Festival and the Krewe of Bacchus Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. On screen, the group has turned up on Sesame Street, Nickelodeon and in the 2005 film "Fever Pitch," and was filmed for Ken Burns's "Baseball: The Tenth Inning" documentary.
