Six jazz acts will take the stage on the 80-acre grounds of Milton's Eustis Estate on Saturday, Aug. 15, when the annual David Chesnut Jazz Festival brings an afternoon of live music, food, and local history to 1424 Canton Ave.
Doors open at 2 p.m. and music runs from 3 to 7 p.m., according to co-presenter Mandorla Music. The lineup features Anthony Wilson, Simon Moullier, Godwin Louis, Matt Dwonszyk, Harvel Nakundi, and Bennie Wallace, professional musicians from across the greater Boston area.
Historic New England and Mandorla Music co-present the festival, which honors David Chesnut, a coachman and chauffeur who worked at the estate from the 1890s until 1905. Chesnut had a lifelong passion for music as both a performer and connoisseur and was active in the community, according to the organizers' event description.
An exhibition featuring artifacts from the Chesnut family collection will run alongside the music. Museum entry is included with a festival ticket.
The festival is family-friendly.
Attendees should bring their own blankets or chairs for lawn seating. Food will be available from the Moyzilla Food Truck, and beverages will be sold on site. Parking is available at the estate.
The estate
The Eustis Estate was built in 1878 for William Ellery Channing Eustis and his wife Edith Hemenway Eustis, designed by Boston architect William Ralph Emerson. It is the only W. Ralph Emerson-designed house open to the public. The Eustis family lived in the home continuously until 2014; Historic New England purchased the property and its 80 acres in 2012 and opened it to visitors in June 2018.
The estate has hosted a series of outdoor concerts this summer, including a swing concert on Sunday, July 26.
