Canton residents who want to vote in the Tuesday, Sept. 1 State Primary have until Saturday, Aug. 22 to register.
The deadline is firm.
The Town Clerk's Office at 801 Washington St. will be open that day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person registration, according to an announcement on the town's website. Residents can also register online through the Secretary of the Commonwealth's voter registration system or request a paper form by calling the office at 781-821-5013.
Paper forms must reach the Town Clerk's Office by 5 p.m. on Aug. 22, or be postmarked by that date. A drop box in front of Town Hall also accepts completed forms.
Residents already registered at their current address and under their current name do not need to re-register.
Other Aug. 22 deadlines
The registration deadline doubles as the last day to change party affiliation before the primary, according to 866ourvote.org. It also marks the start of the statewide early voting period, which runs through Friday, Aug. 28. Canton-specific early voting locations and hours have not yet been announced.
The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.
Massachusetts runs an open primary: voters enrolled in a party must use that party's ballot, while unenrolled voters may choose either party's ballot at the polls.
Polling locations on Sept. 1
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Canton's polling sites serve all seven precincts:
- Precincts 1 and 6: Canton High School, Rodman Building, 960 Washington St.
- Precincts 2 and 7: Senior Center, 500 Pleasant St.
- Precinct 3: Blue Hill Regional School, 800 Randolph St.
- Precincts 4 and 5: 1860 Washington St. (former St. Gerard Church site)
