Canton golfers and supporters can tee up for local veterans on Tuesday, Aug. 18, when the Andreotti/Eckler Veterans Golf Tournament returns to Brookmeadow Country Club.
Registration costs $175 per player. Hole sponsorships are available for $100. All proceeds go to the Canton Veterans Donation Account, according to a notice posted by the town's Veterans Services department.
The tournament bears the names of two Canton figures. Jeff Eckler is Canton High School's head football coach, appointed in February, and a physical education teacher at Galvin Middle School. A 1991 Canton High graduate, Eckler has spent most of his career in the town's schools. Andreotti is a longtime Canton name associated with the town's veterans services.
Players and sponsors can register by calling 781-821-5005 or emailing [email protected]. No registration deadline is listed in the town notice.
Brookmeadow is an 18-hole public course at 100 Everendon Road.
Veterans Coffee Social resumes in September
Separately, the town's Veterans Coffee Social will resume Thursday, Sept. 3, after a summer break. The monthly gathering meets the first Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Department of Elder and Human Services, 500 Pleasant St.
The last session before the break was Thursday, June 4. The department encourages veterans to attend the social as a way to learn about and sign up for additional veterans programming.
Residents can reach the Department of Elder and Human Services at 781-828-1323. The department also administers Canton's Senior/Veterans Tax Program, which allows qualifying homeowners age 60 and older to work up to 133 hours for the town in exchange for a $2,000 annual property tax credit.
The next coffee social is Sept. 3 at 9:30 a.m.
