Runners and walkers can support student mental health programs at Canton’s fourth annual Champions of Wellness Road Race on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m. at Canton High School Memorial Field. Online registration costs $28.45, including processing charges on the $25 entry fee. Organizers hope to attract 150 participants, Patch reported.

The race began in 2023 to raise awareness of the mental health challenges teenagers face and help fund wellness initiatives in Canton schools. According to the registration page, proceeds support programming, guest speakers and scholarships.

Canton High School senior Sophie Regan encouraged students and athletic teams to participate together, describing the race as a way to connect the school with the broader community and demonstrate support for mental health, Patch reported.

The district’s wellness efforts include Unity Day for fifth graders, Yellow Tulip Hope Gardens and mental health awareness events at athletic games. Student leaders in Canton High’s Active Minds group help recommend programming, which can change from year to year.

The group also works with Morgan’s Message and KyleCares, nonprofits supporting youth mental health education and efforts to reduce stigma. KyleCares provided an initial grant supporting the race, according to organizers.

Adam Hughes, Canton’s pre-K–12 wellness coordinator, told Patch that participation has grown each year and praised the community’s support.

The course begins at Memorial Field, passes through the high school campus and follows Washington, Sherman, Beaumont and Chapman streets before returning to the field.

Parking is available in the high school’s lower lot at the end of Reynolds Street, with additional spaces in other campus lots. Restrooms will be available near the start and finish.

Online registration is listed through Nov. 21. Participants registering in person on race day must do so before 8:15 a.m.
