Canton police conducted 601 traffic stops in August, a 27 percent increase over August 2025's 472 stops, according to a department update.

Moving violations climbed from 96 to 118 year over year. Non-moving violations held nearly flat, rising from 26 to 27. Officers also made three arrests for driving under the influence in August, up from two during the same period in 2025.

Targeted enforcement at 12 locations

Beyond the monthly totals, the department reported 145 targeted enforcement actions across 12 locations between June 15 and July 17. More than half took place on Randolph Street and Wentworth Road, where the department said officers responded to traffic concerns from residents.

Three corridors accounted for the bulk of the activity. Randolph Street, Wentworth Road and Bolivar Street together drew 101 enforcement actions, nearly 70 percent of the 145 total.

The update, released Tuesday, Sept. 15, did not detail what complaints prompted the enforcement or list counts for each of the 12 locations beyond the top three. The update also did not address whether the targeted patrols will continue.
