The Canton School Building Committee has posted its next two meeting dates for the $241.7 million Galvin Middle School project: Wednesday, August 19, and Wednesday, September 16, both at Canton High School.

Each session runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the DLL at Canton High School, 900 Washington St. Both meetings are open to the public.

No agenda items have been posted for either date. At its most recent session on Wednesday, July 22, the committee addressed Pre-GMP pricing and project alternates for the new school.

Where the project stands

The new William H. Galvin Middle School is rising at 55 Pecunit St., the site of the existing school. Early site-enabling work, including geothermal well drilling and construction of a new loop road, began June 23, 2025, according to the project's December 2025 monthly report from owner's project manager LeftField, LLC. Jennifer Carlson serves as project director for LeftField.

Consigli Construction Company is the construction manager at risk. The December 2025 report listed the project in the Construction Documents phase, with 100% construction documents targeted for June 2026. No public update has confirmed whether that milestone was met.

Budget and funding

The total project budget stands at $241,764,835, per the December 2025 OPM report. The Massachusetts School Building Authority's maximum grant is $72,808,198, excluding contingencies. That leaves Canton taxpayers responsible for roughly $169 million in local share.

Voters approved the project at a Special Town Meeting on Monday, November 18, 2024, then passed a debt exclusion ballot on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

What's next

The preliminary project schedule targets building substantial completion in July 2028 and a school opening in August 2028. Those dates were last confirmed in the October 2024 project timeline and have not been updated publicly since.
